TAG's main
aims and purposes
• To shelter and re-home unwanted, abandoned and stray animals
• To promote spaying and neutering as an effective means of
unwanted pet control
• To provide a subsidised spay and neutering collection service
for low income families
• To educate the general public into going beyond the basics in
pet care
• To raise public awareness as to the instinctive drives and
needs of domestic pets
• To provide a telephone help line for the local community with
animal related problems
Rescue
The rescue and re-homing of unwanted, stray or abandoned
domestic animals shall be the primary purpose of TAG Pet Rescue.
A high standard of accommodation, care and clinical cleanliness
is to be provided and maintained at all times and any veterinary
treatment sought at the earliest opportunity.
Under no circumstances is any animal to be destroyed unless in a
qualified medical practitioners opinion it is required on
medical grounds.
All admissions are recorded and details logged in TAG Pet Rescue
database.
Re-homing
No animal is to be re-homed until a representative of TAG Pet
Rescue has visited the home of a potential adopter and deemed it
suitable. No animal is to be re-homed in order to make space or
in an emergency unless the new home meets TAG Pet Rescue
criteria. Adoption forms must be completed and signed before any
animal is allowed to leave the care of TAG Pet Rescue.
Spaying and Neutering
All female cats over the age of 6 months are to be spayed before
or immediately after re-homing. All male cats over the age of 6
months are to be neutered before or immediately after re-homing.
This measure is to reduce the number of unwanted cats and
kittens and to exercise some control over the spread of FIV, FIP
and other highly infectious and deadly diseases.
The promotion of spaying and neutering as a means of control
over the above mentioned problems will remain an important part
of TAG Pet Rescue's day to day business.
TAG Pet Rescue provides a subsidised spaying and neutering
service for low income families.
Charity rate veterinary fees have been negotiated with a local
veterinary surgeon. TAG Pet Rescue collects animals on a weekly
basis and delivers them to the veterinary practice for spaying
and neutering. TAG Pet Rescue will then collect and return all
animals to their respective owners.

Rogues
Retreat Opens
The idea sprung to mind a couple of years ago when we
felt we had to come up with a better quality of life for
our golden oldies. TAG gives shelter to quite a lot of
OAP cats, for instance, if someone has died or a baby
has been born into the family. Occasionally some
-wonderful person will come along and want to take on
one of our old dears or they will offer a home under our
OAP permanent foster home arrangement, where someone is
willing to give an older cat a home and provide food but
are understandably worried about large veterinary
expenses, so given peace of mind that TAG will cover
veterinary expenses, this arrangement works well. But
not all the oldies are as lucky. It never ceases to
sadden us to see the older cats spending much longer
than the younger cats at the sanctuary. Although each
cat has its own indoor heated 4 x 4 house comfortably
furnished with scratch post, litter tray, toys and cosy
bed with its own cat flap leading to its own 6 x 4
outside run with a chair to laze on. We still felt that
this was not the best in the long term. So, the idea was
born to create a large garden type enclosed area with
planted borders, decking, cobble stone yard and wooden
love seats arranged around the trees for the cats to sit
outside and enjoy their gorgeous surroundings. They also
have a choice of two heated houses where they are able
to sit indoors listening to Classic FM while snoozing on
the sofas enjoying good quality first class
accommodation! Rogues Retreat gives the feel of a home
from home atmosphere.

Pets We Have Helped Re-home
TAG re-homed over 200 animals in and there are many
more waiting, for a chance of happiness. All prospective
homes are checked for their suitability and advise is
given by TAG' s home checkers on what type of pet would
best suit their environment. Once approved an owner
would be invited to choose the new member of their
family.
Often younger animals are chosen first and older animals
are overlooked. Some of the
animals that live at TAG do not show their better side
whilst here, often given the chance of a snug new home
their
better side shines out. The following are just a few of
those animals that have been overlooked by families and
we are now desperate to find them a new home.TAG

Flossy
is a 10 year old female cat who came to the sanctuary in
September. Sadly Flossie is blind so
she is really confused about what is happening to her.
Flossie's much loved owner died and her daughter took
Flossie home with her. Unfortunately she was frightened
of the family dog. Flossie swishes her tail to find her
way around. TAG really needed to find her a home soon
where she could feel safe again. Then along came Clare
who gave her a loving new home.
Flossie's
Story.
(Story told by Clare, Flossie's New Mum)
I
wasn't going to get another cat after Gothic
died. My previous
rescue cat that had lived with
me for 11 years. But
as a few months past, my house felt empty without
any animals and I felt
that I could afford
to share my home with a cat
in need. So the next
time I was in TAG I was
looking at the
pictures on the wall of all therescue
cats and the lady at the counter came over and started
telling me about a blind cat named Flossie who needed a
home. She told me I should go and take a look. We
brought her home that day. She settled in extremely
quickly and now rules the roost! Her last owner had died
and Flossie had been in the cattery for a while before
she came to us, but shows no signs of a troubled past,
she is treated like aprincess
in our home. She's warm, affectionate and cheeky; lying
in wait to get you is one of her favourite games!
We want to thank all at TAG for the work they're doing
and encourage other people to rescue a cat like Flossie. |
